Why do the world’s leading wedding websites and businesses come to Alan Berg for advice, training and speaking?

I began in the wedding industry selling advertising for WeddingPages magazine in New Jersey and the Hudson Valley in New York. After 5 years my wife and I bought the two magazine franchises, and I was the publisher for the next 5 years. We sold the magazines back to WeddingPages, when they wanted me to manage their sales team on the East Coast. Shortly thereafter, The Knot, at the time the busiest wedding website, bought WeddingPages. A few years later I was promoted to Vice President of Sales, running a sales team of 50+ reps around the country.

I was the main speaker for The Knot at conferences for wedding professionals. I also oversaw the hiring and training of new sales reps, and I created a new Customer Relations Manager team. Over my 11 years with The Knot, after running local sales, I was Vice President of Local Sales Operations and The Knot Market Intelligence.

Being a down to earth person to talk to he is a wonderful speaker. My business is growing and all I did was LISTEN. – Sarah Martin, Shutterbooth, Detroit, MI

After leaving The Knot, I became an independent speaker, author, sales trainer and consultant. I now consult and do sales training for WeddingPro from The Knot Worldwide (with websites in 15 countries around the world) and their teams from WeddingWire and The Knot. I also consult and speak for weddingsonline in Ireland, Dubai and India, as well as Guides for Brides in the UK and EasyWeddings in Australia.

Like most of you, my experience is quite varied. That’s part of what makes all of us unique. When I first launched this new site I didn’t have much about my background, as I believe this site is for you, not me. In the feedback you’ve given me, you asked for more about me, so pardon me if I use the word “I” a little more here. I’ve owned several businesses, so I know what it’s like to hire, fire, train and motivate employees. From my early days with a Rock & Roll band, to owning a Burglar Alarm company, to publishing two wedding magazines, I’ve paid my dues. Like you, I understand what it’s like to have to make payroll, do the books, market, promote and grow a business. Sound familiar?

It was great to get an outside perspective on our business, and was a tremendous investment for us. – Adam Dove, Carrie Dove Catering, Oakland, CA

How can I help you with sales & marketing? Starting with a degree in Advertising and Accounting I grew into a sales career. I began at Young & Rubicam Advertising, at the time the largest ad agency in the country. As I’m sure you did, I bounced around through a few jobs, including retail management. I honed my skills selling Chrysler cars, becoming one of the Top 50 Chrysler salespeople in the country and winning the National Product Information Championship, 4 years in a row. I wasn’t the typical car salesman, having a Magna Cum Laude college degree, and that’s part of why I was so successful. I became the salesman I would want to buy from. When you attend my sales training and presentations, that’s what I help you do, as well.

The response has been great! Interactions have been better which results to better convos and better outcomes.” – Rob Amro, EasyWeddings, Melbourne, Australia

Stave & Thief Society LogoIn addition to my CSP and Global Speaking Fellow, I’m proud to have achieved the designation of Executive Bourbon Steward, through the Stave & Thief Society, in Louisville, Kentucky. More of a personal achievement than a professional one, at least for now, it’s something that some friends and I have wanted to do for a while now. What are you wanting to achieve, and what’s holding you back?

Designed for industry professionals and bourbon enthusiasts alike, the in-person course provides a strengthened understanding of the technical side of bourbon production, its history and relationship to other whiskeys, and the variety of aromas and flavors found in different expressions, giving us all the tools we need to build creative flights and guide our own engaging sensory experiences.

In addition to joining the 5,700+ Bourbon Stewards from around the world who have graduated from their program, we also gain the ability to speak with knowledge and confidence when sharing our appreciation for Kentucky’s signature spirit, Bourbon!

For more information about the Stave & Thief Society, and the Executive Bourbon Steward course, visit: https://staveandthief.com/

As you can see from the images below, I’ve been blending different whiskey bottles together, and then experimenting with aging and flavoring them with different toasted woods – from American and French Oak, to Maple, Ash, Birch, Hickory and even Amburana, a Brazilian wood that imparts a cinnamon flavoring. We made a special blend to honor my Dad, who was called Zaydeh by his grandchildren, and made it to 93, thanks in part to his daily Irish Whiskey. We’re now making a special blend for our son’s wedding.

My Story

“I’m a Suburban Renaissance Man”… a husband, father, son, friend, speakerauthor, salesman, marketer, musician, handyman, consultant, teacher, cruciverbalist (one who does crossword puzzles), Executive Bourbon Steward, and I’ve been told, an all-around nice guy. I’m passionate about my family and my work. Like many of you, I love being creative and working with my hands, as well as my mind (that’s what the wrench in my logo stands for). Your success leads to more success for me. You’ve probably heard that when you give first, you’ll get more than you could have ever asked for. It’s true. I’m living for today, while planning for tomorrow.

Besides my speaking credentials, as the wedding and event industry’s first Certified Speaking Professional (CSP), and one of only 40 Global Speaking Fellows in the world, I was inducted into the Mobile Entertainment Experience (MEX) Hall of Fame in 2024, the first non-DJ to be so honored. In 2024 I also achieved the designation of Executive Bourbon Steward.

I already converted 1 sale over the weekend I would otherwise have lost, so I’m happy out.” – Grainne Mc Gibney, Wedding Singer, Dublin, Ireland

Alan is as genuine in person as he comes across in his books.” – Suzanne McMahon, Maximum Music DJ Service, Toronto, ON, Canada

Each of us has many facets. Here are just a few of mine… in pictures!
What’s your path?

Each of us has our own, unique path, that has brought us to where we are today. Mine includes getting my CSP, the highest earned designation for a professional member of the National Speakers Association; Skydiving for a milestone birthday; getting my Global Speaking Fellow in 2018 (at the time I was one of only 33 people in the world to get this, and as of this writing, there are only 40 in the world); starting at age 39 and working up to a 2nd Degree Black Belt, and deciding to teach myself 3 new languages (Spanish, French and now, Italian) and then give presentations in Spanish only 4 years after my first lesson and in French less than 2 years after my first lesson! To date, I’ve presented in Spanish, in-person in 5 countries, and even more remotely.

WOW!  I’ve heard Alan speak before, but he knocked it out of the park this time! – Melanie Hill, Exceptional Events, Dallas, TX

What’s with the selfies?

I love highlighting my audiences because it’s you who make what I do possible.  Taking selfies from the stage started organically and turned into a fun exercise where you, the audience, tag yourselves in my social posts. I love it, so please keep coming and I’ll keep taking selfies and posting them!
